Sonny Liew
Sonny Liew needs no introduction in the literary and arts scene. His 2016 comic work, The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye, was the first graphic novel to win the Singapore Literature Prize and was also a New York Times and Amazon bestseller. Graduating from Rhode Island, Sonny received his first break into the American comics industry when he was signed on for Vertigo Comics'‘My Faith in Frankie’ together with Mike Carey and Marc Hempel. His work has appeared in the Flight Anthologies edited by Kazu Kibuishi, and he has served as editor of the Eisner-nominated Southeast Asian comics anthology ‘Liquid City’, featuring creators from Southeast Asia. In 2011, he was nominated for an Eisner award in the pencilling/inking category for his work on SLG and Disney's Wonderland, written by Tommy Kovac.
Eric Khoo
Yes, this is Eric Khoo, the filmmaker. Not known to many, he draws and is a pioneer in the Singapore comics scene. Before making films, Eric started out as a comic illustrator in the late 1980s. His works were published in publications such as the NewMan and BigO magazines. Khoo’s Unfortunate Lives was also the first comic collection to be published in Singapore.13
Otto Fong
Otto created the popular science comic series Sir Fong’s Adventures In Science, which has won over many fans in Singapore, Malaysia and other parts of the world. His 2013 venture into horror novel territory, Bitter Suites, received critical acclaim from fellow writer Ovidia Yu, Books Kinokuniya director Kenny Chan and Straits Times reviewer Clara Chow. In 2014, Otto created a new teen sci-fi novel series Black Peony, releasing Black Peony and the Zombie Kangaroos and Black Peony and the Dino Pirates back-to-back. Otto’s first comic book was Buddy Buddy (1998) published in Beijing, China.
